Diary of a Bride – The Engagement

Meet Emma & Dominic

They are the winners of “Complete My Wedding” presented by the Getting Hitched Wedding Expo for 2010-2011. Emma & Dom have won my Wedding Coordination and Wedding Planning Services for their wedding in January 2011.

I have asked Emma, to keep a bit of a diary on the planning events over the next few months, and today we start with their engagement. They are a wonderful couple that really deserve to win this prize, including their wedding  photography, cake, flowers, transport, DJ/Entertainment, invitations and a few other services that will soon appear in Emma’s diary.

6 years & 2 months it took him. He stole me away from work for a Valentines weekend, surprising me with a houseboat escape through the waterways of Berowra. On our second night, we anchored our houseboat and headed onshore for dinner at a restaurant of my choice. He’d made no plans at all for the Feb 14 evening and by the end of dessert I’d shelved any suspicion that the night might amount to a proposal. I would wait one more year I thought to myself… I was happy, I loved him & he was my best friend.

We settled our bill and stumbled across a darkened Brooklyn beach to our little yellow dingy, torch in my one hand, his in my other. It began to rain lightly as we climbed in to set up the oars and make way back to our house on the water. I rowed first, laughing with him about my efforts as he guided me. I turned around to see if I was heading in the right direction, and when I faced back towards Dom, he was kneeling in front of me in the centre of our dingy, holding a stunning ring that was sparkling so bright in the torch light. He recited a spontaneous poem and asked me to marry him. I was crying with happiness & was shocked into speechlessness… except for the part where I said “Yes”.

 I’m so proud of him… not only for creating for us such a perfect engagement story, but for somehow managing to surprise me (very hard to do). That night gave us even more meaning to Valentine’s Day. It marked 6 years, 2 months and the beginning of the rest of our lives together.
